Arched tail

The tail is raised over the back and held stiffly, forming an arch.
(Shoening, 2006)

In this interaction between two females, the Airedale approaches the mixed breed, who reacts by showing behaviours indicating fear. The mixed breed moves closer to her owner, then moves back towards the Airedale. The mixed breed investigates an odour on the ground, and begins to rub her shoulder as the Airedale approaches. The mixed breed moves a step away, then raises her tail. Turning towards the Airedale, she exhibits an arched tail and glances toward her. The Airedale orients toward the mixed breed; they sniff each other quickly, after which the mixed breed first swerves to the side, then shakes off, turning back to the olfactory spot, and marks with a paw scrape.
