Inhibited bite

A bite with pressure that is not enough to cause damage to the victim.
(Goodmann et al., 2002; Koler-Matznick et al., 2005)

The male Terrier mix exhibits an inhibited bite to the female Malamute's neck during a fight. The Malamute reacts by taking on a posture with head lowered and head turned towards her opponent.

The Airedale puppy nips her owner's hand instead of the toy.

The female black and white Border Collie remains sitting as the mixed breed male exhibits olfactory exploration. A tri-colour female Border Collie approaches, standing tall, and exhibits olfactory exploration of the black and white female. When the male approaches the tri-colour female from the rear, she lowers her tail, glances at him, hardens her eye, lowers her tail still further, then attacks, growling and giving an inhibited bite to the mixed breed male's neck, grabbing him by the skin. The male swerves to the side and runs away, followed by the tri-colour female.
