Growl-bark

The bark and growl occur together.
(Goodman et al., 2002; van den Berg et al., 2003; Koler-Matznick et al., 2005)

Dogs growl-bark frequently during conflicts, as shown in this interaction between two females, in which the young Maremmano Abruzzese is growl-barking at the Malamute.

In this interaction between two females, the German Shepherd Cross barks as she approaches and confronts the Bernese Mountain Dog from a frontal position. The Bernese Mountain Dog glances at her, arches her neck and keeps moving. The Shepherd cross circles around her, sniffs her briefly, then confronts the Bernese again, barking and leaping in front of her. As the barking of the Shepherd cross changes to a growl-bark, the Bernese stops and raises her head and tail, bares her teeth and exhibits an agonistic pucker.
