stares the person in the face, then moves away toward
his owner, grabbing a plastic bowl.

This nearly adolescent Maremmano-Abruzzese Shepherd dog
reacts to the presence of a stranger with lowered tail
and ears back, orienting toward an escape route. When
the person moves nearer, the dog displays alertness and
ears back, averting his gaze, then orienting in a
frontal position in a defensive posture, exhaling
noisily, and gives a muffled short
bark, backing away before seeking support from
his owner and positioning himself behind her.
