Eyes shut

During an interaction, often during the phase of leaving, the dog closes its eyes.
(Abrantes, 1997; Capra, 2011)

In this encounter between a female German Shepherd and a mixed breed male, the Shepherd is leaving, ears turned sideways, tail lowered and eyes shut.

This mixed breed male is exhibiting anal-genital olfactory exploration towards an American Staffordshire who has lowered her tail, turned her ears back and shut her eyes.

A sable mixed breed male encounters an adolescent female German Shepherd. The male moves away, shuts his eyes, stops, walks with head down and greets the owner of the German Shepherd. The female Shepherd approaches her owner, looks at the mixed breed, licks her flews, circles around her owner and displaces the male, who shuts his eyes and then leaves the interaction.
