T1-position

A dog moves close to the shoulder of another dog, forming the two legs of a letter T when seen from above. This behaviour may be displayed by a male in courtship, or by an aggressive individual. A dog in position T1 may also exhibit chin over, riding up, or a chest press. (Feddersen-Petersen, 1986; Goodman et al., 2002; Capra, 2011)

In this interaction between two females, the Irish Terrier uses a gallopping approach toward the mixed-breed, moving into T1 position, while the mixed-breed, crossing her forelegs, moves closer and maintains a lateral stance. The male smooth-coated Border Collie approaches, exhibiting T1 position with chin over and causing the female Irish Terrier to move away. At his second display of chin over, the Terrier leaps and re-orients frontally, the Border Collie again displaces her and she leaves the interaction.
